Dental Implant Consultation, Treatment and Aftercare

Dental implants are a simple process, if you are interested in having the procedure or have been recommended to have dental implant surgery the first step is to arrange a free consultation, where one of our dentists will meet with you to discuss the treatment. You will more than likely have to have an oral examination, which will include x-rays of the mouth, to determine whether your mouth is suitable to have the procedure. The dentist will then advise you on what treatment will be best for you, visual aids may also be used to explain this.

The dental implant procedure itself will be carried out by a dental implant expert who has the right training, skills and experience to assess your situation and custom design a bespoke treatment plan for you. Dr Hamza Sheikh is Camden Place’s resident dental implant dentist and will be the dentist performing the procedure.

Within your treatment plan you will be given an estimated time for the completion process. This will differ from patient to patient based on their restoration needs, medical and dental histories, the condition on the jaw bone and the material needed. To ensure that your dental implants stay for the long-term, remain sturdy and function like your natural teeth, multiple appointments will be necessary.

Dental implants can last a lifetime with the right aftercare. Once the final restoration is fitted an appointment is usually scheduled with our dental hygienist, Justine Eastwood, who will discuss with you the best way to keep your mouth happy and healthy to help you maintain your new dental implant.

Dental Implant Long-term aftercare

We would always advise that you book in regular check-ups with your dentist to check your teeth and mouth are healthy. This is especially true with those who have received dental implant surgery. Every year patients will have their mouths x-rayed to check the bone levels in the jaw. If there has been bone loss then the dentist will show the patient the x-ray, explain the results and issues, and discuss a new treatment plan with the patient.

Making sure you take care of your new dental implants and your oral health can make all the difference in their success. To arrange your free consultation, or if you have any questions, please contact us, or call 01772 556 050.

Pax i3D Machine at Camden Place, Preston

CBCT and Panoramic scanner for accurate placement of dental Implants

Here at Camden Place Dental Practice we have invested in our very own cone beam CT (CBCT) and panoramic scanner, the Vatech PAX-i3D. With this new technology we are able to provide patients and referring dentist with the highest level of clinical care, accurate planning and placement of dental Implants.

What is a cone beam CT scanner?

CBCT ScanDental cone beam computed tomography (CT)  is a special type of x-ray machine used in situations where regular dental x-rays are not sufficient. This type of CT scanner uses a special type of technology to create three dimensional (3-D) images of dental structures, nerve paths, soft tissues and bone in a single scan. Images obtained with cone beam CT allow for more precise treatment planning.

What is a cone beam CT scanner used for?

A cone beam CT scanner can be used for a variety of different reasons, we at Camden Place Dental Practice primarily use the cone beam CT scanner for:

  • Evaluation of the jaw bone, sinuses, nerve canals and nasal cavity for accurate planning and placement of dental Implants
  • Minimally invasive Guided Implant Surgery such as ‘All on 4’
  • Surgical planning for impacted teeth
  • Complex endodontic surgery

The CBCT scanner can also be used for:

  • TMJ ( temporomandibular joint disorder) diagnosis
  • Orthodontic treatment
  • Perio disease
  • Diagnosis of infection
What is a Panoramic X-ray?

CBCT Scanpanoramic x-ray, is a two-dimensional (2-D) dental X-ray that captures the entire mouth in one single image, including the upper and lower teeth, jaws and the maxillary sinuses.

What a Panoramic X-Ray is used for?

A Panoramic X-Ray, like a CBCT scan can be used for:

  • Planning of simple Implant cases
  • Endodontic surgery
  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • cavities

Camden Place Dental Practice is one of the few dental practices in Preston that offer this amazing technology.

Dental implants vs Dental bridge

Implants

Dental Implant Placement

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a titanium screw used to support one or more false teeth. Dental implants replace the root of a tooth when it fails. Just like a tooth root, the dental implant(s) preserves the jawbone. A crown or bridge will be used to restore the implants.

Are dental implants safe, and how long do they last?

Implants are a well-established treatment and are safe, implants, much like natural teeth, will last for as long as you care for them with regular maintenance visits.

Can implants replace missing teeth?

Yes, implants can replace one missing tooth to several missing teeth  without affecting the adjacent teeth. Implants can also be used to replace all teeth (same day teeth) that have been lost or extracted years before.

Bridge              Dental bridge

What is a dental bridge?

Bridges are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth by a dentist. Bridges are commonly used to cover a space if you’re missing one or more teeth. They are cemented to natural teeth or implants surrounding the space where the natural tooth is missing.

Are dental bridges safe, and how long do they last?

Dental bridges are safe, but the adjacent teeth need preparing to be able to place the crown with the attached tooth to fill the gap. Preparation involves re-contouring these teeth by removing a portion of enamel to allow room for a crown to be placed over them. By re-contouring the adjacent teeth, may result in the tooth to become sensitive or for the tooth needing a root filling. Bridges can last up to 10 years on average.

Whenever a tooth is lost or extracted a considerable amount of the bone that once surrounded the remaining root may disappear. This loss can be particularly rapid during the first few months and is described as ‘bone resorption’. It will always occur to some extent, unless specific care is taken to reduce its effects.

Dental Implants Preston

Dental Implants – Budapest or Preston for your treatment?

Dental implants mimic a root that supports a tooth or multiple teeth. The implant can be placed to replace any missing tooth or teeth within the mouth. This final result is a long-lasting, fixed and permanent replacement of tooth/teeth.

Many people go abroad for treatments such as Dental Implants. Some clinics are great but it’s a shame we can’t say that for all of them.

One major problem of going abroad to receive this treatment is who will look after your implants once your return home. The dental implant system is normally not use in the UK so we cannot get replacement parts that you will need. If you come across a clinic that can give you immediate dental implants and results, you should be wary. This approach leads to increased failure rates. The best approach for dental implants is to do things slowly.

One of our patients had an implant consultation in London for a treatment, which was going to be done in Budapest. She admitted that dental implants would be a lot cheaper overseas, but was unsure of proceeding, which brought her to Camden Place Dental Practice for a second opinion.

We proposed bone grafting with sinus lifting and 6 implants evenly spread across the jaw and fixed 12-teeth bridge, which meant no more dentures for our patient! Our patient is very grateful for having the treatment here at Camden Place Dental Practice. To her it was a job well done and had no regrets of her choice of place to have the dental implants treatment.

We also offer a FREE implant consultation with your implant surgeon!

If you have any questions regarding the dental implants process, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our friendly and professional team at Camden Place Dental Practice in Preston by calling 01772 556 050.
